Happy holidays!
As I highlight in my latest article last night for Puck—a recap called 2023: A Labor Odyssey—next year will bring a host of entertainment labor negotiations: SAG-AFTRA’s TV animation, interactive media (video games) and Netcode (hosts of reality, late night and game shows) agreements and the high-stakes agreements with IATSE (most crew) and Teamsters Local 399 (notably, the drivers who haul necessary production equipment). With basic wages and AI as key issues, negotiations may again be tumultuous. More strikes are possible.
But that article is not only my latest for Puck, it may also be my last. With the high-profile WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes ended, Puck has (amicably) ended my monthly arrangement with them. I thank them for our time together.
What Happens Next is Up to You
Hence a question for you: should I start a paid entertainment labor newsletter? And, if so, what would you be willing to pay? I’d anticipate posting weekly, or more often when warranted, and would be providing analysis, deep dives and some breaking news. It would still be this jhandel.news newsletter, but with deep labor content added for those who pay. Those who don’t would continue to receive my unpaid musings. Those who are already optional paid subscribers (thank you!) would automatically receive the entertainment labor content.
A Poll!
Should I do it? To help me decide, please answer the following poll by clicking as appropriate, and feel free to email me your thoughts as well. All prices below are monthly. If you’re a paid subscriber, click the button labeled “$9 or more/mo. OR I already pay” (assuming you plan to continue to do so).
And in Other News …
My latest appearance on Fox 11 was about something a bit different …
This could be helpful for people in publishing/journalism?
You DESERVE a subscription price. Unfortunately, I am swamped with tons of subscriptions and have had to cut many of them.
